Engaging your kid in sport has numerous benefits and it’s not all physical. When it comes to kids, engaging in sport can help to produce healthy habits that last long into adulthood. Sports are more than just games; they are about life, emotion, passion, and metal capacity to manage highs and lows in your day to day lives. Over the time, academic knowledge and sports education have come complementarily to each other.
Research experts in the education field believe that these are the two sides of the coin and both are necessary for developing all-round personality of a child. It is not a wonder that leading schools in India are now focussing to provide the kids with an infrastructure where they could strive for sporting excellence. Sports have also been included as a subject in the classes. Academic education is credited for the career of a child, but it's the sports that develops the qualities like leadership, confidence, mental strength and team spirit in a kid that are used in every day life of every individual.
BUILDING PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES
There are many health benefits to playing sports, in additon to staying physically fit and active. Many studies show that those who played organized sports as children or teens were more likely to continue to engage in active behavior as grown ups. With this, the development of gross motor skills through sports contribute in development of children. Movements like throwing a ball, running and jumping are all constantly practiced motions in many sports. Gross motor skills are not only important for sports but to perform these basic movements and motions in our daily lives with efficiency.
PSYCHOLOGICAL AND EMOTIONAL BENEFITS OF PLAYING SPORTS
Engaging in sports can improve many emotional and psychological qualities in the children, primarily their confidence. Rather than being obsessed with the results or questioning on winning and losing, focus of parents should be on importance of enjoyment in child's life from playing a sport. This is really the most important factor that will contribute in improving their confidence and concentration levels. Also, children who aren’t smart or who don’t win constantly can still achieve great confidence by getting the growth mindset provided to them from the sport. Therefore, these children get an understanding that with practice and hardwork they can become stronger and better players. This mindset will serve children not only in sports, but in the future at their workplace or school as well. As kids develop this growth mindset, working it through the trouble and a desire to learn and grow, they also develop better sportsmanship and are able to accept the defeat and learn from it, and find way to improve and take another chance to win.
